Sunderland Crematorium: a family’s guide
A guide to service times, early morning cremations, fees and facilities at Sunderland Crematorium.
Sunderland Crematorium is managed by Sunderland City Council. The council sets the fees and determines the service arrangements.

How long you have in the chapel
Standard weekday services last 30 minutes. Additional charges may apply if the service overruns.
Four or five carefully chosen pieces of music, readings or tributes can help create a meaningful service within the time available. Reading the eulogy aloud beforehand will help you judge how long it will take.
Early morning Unattended and Simple Cremations
Unattended Cremations: These bookings take place without mourners or flowers present.
Simple Cremations: Family and friends can attend to follow the coffin and walk through the chapel. There is no service or music.
The two options differ in who can attend. Unattended Cremations are the 8am and 8.15am slots, with no mourners present. Simple Cremations are the 8.30am and 8.45am slots, and let you walk through the chapel behind the coffin.
Understanding crematorium fees
Sunderland City Council sets the crematorium fees. We include the applicable crematorium fee in our funeral packages and pass on the charge at cost.
Our crematoria and cemetery fees page provides the published charges, together with the date they were last checked.
