Accessibility statement
How accessible this site is, what we tested, and what is still to fix.
This page is about the website itself. For getting into the two buildings, see the Fulwell and Grindon pages.
Gavin J Reynolds & Son Family Funeral Directors Limited wants this website to work for everyone. That includes anyone using a screen reader, a keyboard on its own, voice control or a magnifier.
What we have done
- Body text is set at 16.5 pixels, in lines short enough to follow.
- Every text colour was measured against what sits behind it.
- A link before the navigation on each page jumps a keyboard user straight to the content.
- Whatever you have tabbed to carries a visible outline.
- Nothing moves or fades if your device is set to reduce motion.
- The phone number sits in the same place on every page.
- No map loads until you ask for it, and no video starts on its own.
The standard we apply
This site is built and tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.2, at level AA. That is a standard we chose. No private company has to meet it by law.
What the law does ask is that we make reasonable adjustments, so a disabled person can use what we offer. Working to the standard is how we do that.
The site is partly conformant with that standard. That means most of it meets the standard and some of it does not yet. What falls short is below.
What is not right yet
- Nobody has yet used the whole site with a screen reader, voice control or a magnifier to check it by hand. Our checks are automatic, and they cannot tell us everything those users would find.
- Every link and button clears 24 pixels, which is the minimum the standard asks for. Some people need a bigger target than that, and not everything here is 44.
- Automatic checks cannot show that every page can be used from start to finish with a keyboard alone, so we do not claim that yet. If you get stuck anywhere, please tell us.
How we check it
Every page on the site is checked automatically at a phone width and at a desktop width, in the engines behind Chrome and Safari. Those checks look for what a tool can find, such as missing labels, colour contrast and focus outlines, and they report nothing serious or critical.
Six pages are also scored with Lighthouse, which is Google’s own tool. All six score 100 out of 100 for accessibility, which means the tool found no problems, not that the pages are fully accessible.
These are our own checks. Nobody outside the firm has audited this site.
Last checked on 6 September 2026. We check again at least once a year.
