Gavin J. Reynolds is an independent, family-run funeral director, not part of a national chain. When you call us, you speak to people who know our families, our community and how important it is to get things right.
The name above the door matters. It means personal responsibility and a commitment to doing things properly. It means Gavin is there to sit with you, listen to your wishes and guide you through every step of arranging a funeral.
At 20, Gavin wrote to nearly 20 firms before one gave him his first opportunity as a casual driver and bearer. After a spell working in construction, he returned to the profession, gaining experience in the mortuary and clerical aspects of funeral care before becoming a Funeral Director.
Gavin opened the Fulwell branch in 2017, followed by Grindon in 2020. Today, Gavin J. Reynolds remains independently owned and family run, with the same commitment to personal, compassionate funeral care.
We treat every family with the care and respect we would want for our own. Every family is different, and every funeral should reflect the person being remembered. We take the time to listen to your wishes, explain your options clearly and offer honest advice, without telling you what you should do. Unattended Cremation
A simple cremation without a service or attendance at the crematorium. We take care of all the necessary arrangements, ensuring your loved one is treated with dignity and respect throughout. If you would prefer a funeral service for family and friends to attend, you may wish to consider one of our other funeral options.

A private opportunity for family members to accompany their loved one into the crematorium for a final farewell. There is no formal service or ceremony, allowing you to say goodbye in a simple, personal and dignified way.

A funeral with a service, including a coffin, professional bearers and funeral transport. A simple and dignified way to say goodbye to your loved one, with all the essential arrangements taken care of.

- Burial
- Burials are £245 more for an attended funeral and £880 more for an unattended funeral. The cemetery or interment fee is separate and will depend on the cemetery and arrangements chosen.
- Weekends and bank holidays
- There is no additional charge from us for a Saturday, Sunday or bank holiday. The crematorium may charge an additional weekend fee, which we will make clear to you.
- Out of hours
- There is no additional charge for bringing your loved one into our care outside normal hours.
- Into our care
- The first 15 miles are included when bringing your loved one into our care. Any additional mileage charges will be clearly explained to you in advance.
